Balaton The beauty and the thousand appearances of Lake Balaton captivate the curious tourists. It is the largest lake of Central Europe, its length is 77 kilometers. The region holds countless unique recreational facilities, secrets and experiences for the guests. Its eastern peak is 100 kms far away from Budapest.
Budapest Often referred to as "Paris of the East", the majestic and impressive city of Budapest is recognised as one of the world's most beautiful capitals. The twin cities of Buda and Pest are separated by the River Danube.
Békéscsaba Also known as the country's eastern gate, Békéscsaba lies in the center of Körös valley (Körös-völgy). It is Békés county's cultural, commercial, and educational center.
Debrecen Debrecen is the second largest city in Hungary, the scientific and cultural centre of the eastem part of the country. The town of festivals lies 220 kilometres from Budapest. Large part of the city's touristic attraction is related to its geographical position, religious traditions, cultural values and events.
Eger Eger is a city of grape and wines. Its fort offers an excellent view of the beautiful downtown. The city, with its glorious historical past, minarets and palaces is a place of thermal baths, good food, wine and of course, good cheer. It is 125 kms far from Budapest.
Győr Győr is halfway between Budapest and Vienna. The city has a celtic origin, once ruled by the Romans (Arrabona was its name). Tourists visiting Győr will find a great city with a mixture of historical values and vivid university life.
Gyula Gyula is one of Southeastern Hungary's most significant cultural centers with its vibrant tourism and rich collection of historical treasures and sites. Its nice climate and cool, shady parks are ideal for leisure.
Hajdúszoboszló Hajdúszoboszló is on the northeastern part of Alföld, 200 kms from Budapest and 20 kms from Debrecen. It is bordered by three important regions: Hortobágy, Hajdúhát, and the region of Sárrét-Berettyó.
Hévíz Town with almost 5,000 inhabitants, it is the best known medicinal bath in Hungary, with important tourism. The thermal lake with a surface of 44,400 m² is the second largest lake with peat bottom in the world.
Kaposvár Kaposvár is Somogy county's economic, commercial, tourist, and cultural center, and is thus a premier player in the region.
Kecskemét Kecskemét carries with it all the beauty and wonder of Alföld (the "Great Hungarian Plain"). Bács-Kiskun county's capital is located in central Hungary, 80 km from Budapest.
Komárom The city of Komarom is located in western Komarom-Esztergom county of northern Hungary, on the right bank of the Danube. Elizabeth bridge (Erzsébet híd) connects the city with its former northern district - this is now Komarno of Slovakia.
Mezőkövesd Mezőkövesd results interesting and attractive for tourists not only because of its folk art. The Zsóry Spa is one of the best known thermal baths of Hungary.
Miskolc Miskolc's history stretches back to the ancient culture of the ice age era. Its first inhabitants, a Celtic tribe known as the Cotini, began to settle here at the end of the Iron Age.
Nyíregyháza Nyiregyhaza is the capital of Hungary's north-eastern Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg county. First mentioned in 1209, the city has gone through constant development during the centuries: first as an administrative settlement and later as a center for royalty.
Pécs Mysterious crypts from the Roman Age, Turkish djamis with cupolas, a slim minaret, exquisite Zsolnay-ceramics, grandiose Csontváry-paintings, decorative Vasarely-patterns, almond-trees blooming early in spring, restaurants and cafeterias with pleasant atmosphere: this is Pécs. The city is 200 kms far from Budapest to the South.
Siófok Siófok is situated in the middle of the eastern basin of the lake Balaton. It can be reached from Budapest on the motorway M7 (105 kms). On the long green avenues and nice beaches of the Golden Beach you can see thousands of people, who are enjoying the pleasures of the summer, holiday and recovery.
Sopron The city which is one of the most abundant ones in historical sights in whole Hungary is Sopron. It is a small town, wreathed by the Lővér Hills covered in pine forests and vineyards producing excellent wine. It is situated by the Austrian-Hungarian border, 220 kms from Budapest and 60 kms from Vienna.
Szeged The number of sunny days is 2100 hours a year, therefore this town, at the junction of the rivers Tisza and Maros, is often called the "town of sunshine". Szeged is situated 170 kms far from Budapest to south-east.
Szentendre Szentendre, a peaceful little town is situated at the Danube bend, North of Budapest. It takes 20 minutes to get there by car or 40 minutes by public transportation. Szentendre is a town of arts and museums, and very popular among tourists.
Szolnok Szolnok is the capital of Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok county and is the meeting point of the Tisza and Zagyva rivers. It is the waterway, road, and railroad junction of Alföld.
Szombathely Szombathely is the capital of Vas County, one of the most important settlements of the Trans-Danube region. The city was founded in 43 A.D., vitalised by the commercial and cultural activity of the Romans. The original Roman name of Szombathely was Savaria.
Székesfehérvár Székesfehérvár deserves the name "city of kings" (királyok városa): in the middle ages it became the center of royalty and the location for crowning and burying Hungarian kings.
Tata "The city of waters" - This is, how Tata, this wonderful small garden city with its lovely atmosphere is known to everybody. As a result of its natural environment it may be one of the best choices in Hungary for guests longing for rest and relaxation. The city is situated near the M1 highway, 70 kms from Budapest.
Veszprém Veszprém (population 59 000) lies between Bakony and the northern part of Lake Balaton. Its history stretches back to the time of Hungary's founding when Gizella established the first episcopate and thus Veszprém came to be the city where queens were crowned.
Zalakaros The small town of Zalakaros with its 1.500 inhabitants lies in the south-western region of Hungary, 40 km far from the Balaton. The settlement has been well known for the remarkable medicinal thermal bath which is the warmest spa in Hungary with its water of 96 °C.
