The matyós are the habitants of Mezőkövesd, Tard and Szentistván. In 1464 the town got a seal and privileges from King Matthias. This way his popularity grew and that's why the name of the Matyó people, who inhabited the town and the area, is likely to have come from the king's name. Nowadays they don't wear their traditional folk dresses, only in the communities that still keep the traditions. The matyó soul and the traditions reborn in the performances of the folk dance group called Matyó Néptáncegyüttes. The matyó embroidery is also very famous, the most characteristic element is the matyó rose, it has various forms. The house of Bori Kisjankó, the most famous designer of folk these special elements, is one of the most important tourist attractions of the town and is located in Hadas the part of the town that best conservs the typical matyó houses. This neighbourhood keeps, cultivates and presents the old construction of the town and houses converted into monuments and craftsmen working inside of them. The waters are important natural treasures not only of Hungary but of whole Europe because of its healing powers.
